    Accommodation

Securing a place to live before you arrive is one of the most important steps in preparing for your studies. Moreover, choosing to stay with other international students guarantees a fun international student experience! There are a few different options for accommodation for VU students, about which you can learn more here.

    Dormitories

A dormitory is not just a place to live – it’s where you experience real student life. There are many accomodation options for international students in Vilnius University. Dormitories are situated as close to the academic campuses as possible and charge modest fees. Application for accomodation must be submitted via online enrolment procedure (for exchange students), or via online admission procesure (for degree students).

    Living in Vilnius

Those studying in Vilnius are accommodated in one of the three dormitory complexes, located on Saulėtekio Avenue, Olandų Street, and Didlaukio Street. First-year students can apply for dormitory accommodation via the VU Housing website.

    Living in Kaunas

The VU Kaunas Faculty campus does not include a dormitory, but students are welcome at the dormitories of other higher education institutions.

    Living in Šiauliai

Students of VU Šiauliai Academy can live in dormitories located near the academic campus and in the city centre. They can choose double or triple rooms.

    Private Accommodation Options

    Co-living communities

They can be a great option for living with students from different countries, getting that community support while also splitting the cost of rent. If you choose this option, be mindful of possible communication barriers, different habits and lifestyles, and limited privacy.

Approach this with open communication, inclusivity, organisation and respect for others to ensure the best possible experience!

A few potential co-living spaces to explore: SoloSociety in Vilnius and Kaunas, SHED CO-living, Liv-in in Vilnius. Find more here.

    Cautions to consider:

    Keep your belongins safe

by always locking your room when you leave.

Have a clear agreement with the landlord

and make sure that everyone is listed on the lease.

    Read the contract contract carefully

before signing to make sure everything works for you!

    Renting an apartment

This might be the option for you if you prefer more privacy, therefore would like to live alone or with friends. Private rentals provide more independence, freedom to choose the location and flexible options for your lifestyle.

Where to look: trusted rental websites like Aruodas.lt, Domoplius.lt and Facebook groups (main keyword: nuoma (rent)). For an easier decision on the place to live, check the page kurgyvenu.lt.

    Cautions to consider:

Some listings are too good to be true!

Don‘t send money before you see the place or sign a contract.

    Sign a written rental agreement

and make sure you understand all of the terms, including the way utilities will be paid, how big will the deposit be (usually – 1-2 months’ rent) and how long the notice period will be.

    Residence permit

You will need to register your place of residence as soon as you come to Lithuania. Make sure your landlords allow this arrangement.
